SOS: Hair

I have curly/wavy hair, but it's super frizzy. I have never really been a big fan of styling hair, so it has always taken a back seat in all of my routines and when I get ready. I also don't really know how to style my natural hair, so whenever I do style my hair, I always straighten it.

I was recently watching KathleenLights natural hair video and her hair straightening routine, and I became inspired to start taking better care of my hair and always wearing my hair naturally. I hope these products work! I just ordered them from Sephora, so I will keep y'all posted on my hair care journey.

Product Review: Radha Beauty Organic Jojoba Oil

Joboba Oil is known for its moisturizing benefits and is marketed for your hair and dry areas of your skin. You can use it for your body in many different ways. As a skin cleanser and makeup remover, to condition your hair and your lips, and to revitalize any part of your skin/hair that is lackluster and needs an extra kick of moisture.

Jojoba Oil is extracted from the seed of a jojoba tree that is most commonly found in Arizona, California and New Mexico. It is used in many cosmetic products, but mostly shampoos, conditioners, moisturizers and lotions. It's actually more extracted as a wax and is the most similar thing to human skin oil, which is why it is so beneficial to your skin.

It is said that jojoba oil can make skin think that it is producing enough oil, which then will balance out the skin and is non-comedogenic, so if you have acne prone skin you can use this product without fear of it making you break out more because it is an oil. This is a great product for all skin types; oily, combination and dry skin.

Radha Beauty Organic Jojoba Oil is packaged in a dark, cobalt blue container to guarantee a long shelf life. It has a much longer shelf life than other oils extracted from plants and seeds. The oil is a beautiful golden color.

After using this product for a few months I have found whenever I use it, it makes my hair super soft. I have recently bleached my hair and everyone knows how damaging that can be. I believe this product has helped maintain some moisture and added a softness to my hair that I have never had. I also use this product on my skin when it is feeling especially dry.

Makeup for Beginners and Teenagers

remember what it was like just starting out with makeup and literally having no clue what to do. My mother, who I adore and love, literally does not know the first thing when it comes to makeup, so I had to teach myself. My love for makeup came natural to me, but it didn't really start to progress until I was a senior in high school and an Ulta and Sephora opened up.

I never wore a lot of makeup in middle school or high school; basically just concealer and mascara, but ever since I was a little girl I have lusted over makeup. I would go to my Aunt Sue's house to spend the night and always ask her to do my makeup. I also loved to watch her take her makeup off and see what products she used. So even though I learned to use makeup a little later in life, it has always been one of my passions.

I decided to enlist the help of my favorite 13-year old, Savannah, for this post. Savannah loves when I do her makeup and she has such a beautiful canvas that is so easy to work with. She recently mentioned to me how she wanted new makeup and to be taught how to properly apply it so it looks more natural and smooth. I jumped at the opportunity to help her!

I passed down to her some products that I did not use very often and she already had some products of her own. The main goal for this was to teach her how to put on makeup for school or an everyday look.

1. Always cleanse and moisturize about 10-45 minutes before applying your makeup. This allows for your skin to be clean, but also gives time for your moisturizer to sink into the skin.
2. Optional - Use a primer. Depending on what you are doing a primer may not be necessary. I like to use primers for my makeup to apply smoothly and for the longevity of my makeup. If you are just going to school, this step is not as important.
3. Foundation first - A lot of people think that you should put your concealer on first, but I don't believe that is so. I think you should put your foundation on first to give a base to the rest of your makeup. Use the foundation to even out your skin.
4. Then use the concealer to conceal anything that the foundation did not cover up. If you were to put on the concealer first, you may use unnecessary product that could have been covered up by foundation. You want to try to use as little product as possible. I like to conceal under my eyes and then any other blemishes I have.
5. Powder - I always like to set my foundation and concealer with a powder to make sure everything stays in place and nothing will crease.
6. Blush - add a little color to your face and a nice glow with a little bit of blush. Swirl your brush in the blush and then tap some of the product off so you are not applying too much to your skin. I am a blush lover, so I like to put blush all over the apples of my cheeks and up my cheek bones, but that is really just preference.
7. Bronzer - If you want a little more color to your face, add a little bronzer along your cheek bones, or all over your face like I do. (that may not be what real makeup experts say to do, but it's makeup, make what you want of it and do what makes you feel pretty!)
8. Optional - I like to add a little highlighter over my bronzer or at the top of my cheek bones to add some beautiful shimmer and really boost up your look. For beginners, this may just be an extra step, but like I said it's whatever you want to do.
9. Optional - If you have sparse or hard to manage brows, I would recommend using a brow gel, pencil or a brown eye shadow to even out the eyebrows. I think a eye shadow works just as well as any other brow product and is perfect for beginners because you probably already have a brown shadow in your collection. The ey eshadow I use even has a little shimmer and it doesn't make a difference, just be sure to get a color that is dark or light enough and apply with an angled brush.
10. Optional - I don't use eyeliner very often, in fact I didn't start wearing any (if I do at all) until very recently, but if you would like to wear an eyeliner I would suggest to have a black or brown for your eyelid and a skin colored or white eyeliner for your waterline because it really helps open up your eyes and make them look awake.

Product Review: LAVANILA Sport Luxe Deodorant

I heard about this deodorant from one of Jaclyn Hill's monthly favorites videos, and if you read my post the other day about the best beauty vloggers to follow, then you know how much I love and trust Jaclyn's opinion.

Let's just say she got this product a little wrong.. in my opinion.

I watched this monthly favorite video around the time of the Sephora VIB sale, so I was looking for some good products to purchase. One of my pet peeves is smelling bad, so I am always on the lookout for the best smelling and lasting deodorant. In her video, Jaclyn raved about this Lavinila deodorant, she said it smelled incredible and that it was sport luxe so it was her favorite deodorant to take the the gym. I jumped on the opportunity to purchase this product and didn't even think twice about the $16 price tag on a DEODORANT.

When my package came in the mail, out of everything that I ordered, I was the most excited to try the deodorant. I started using it right away, loving the way it smelled (like fresh, amazing laundry) and the way it felt when applied - like a gel deodorant, a little harder, but not as wet. I could even smell myself and how good I smelt after applying it, which I love when deodorants do. I was telling everyone about it, I was so excited! I even let one of my little cousins try it after a track meet when we were on the way to the mall.

Fast forward a few hours, we are still at the mall and we both notice a smell. We check our armpits and OH MY GOODNESS do we SMELL! Like straight up B.O. We start dying laughing because she smelled better after her track meet than she did after wearing the deodorant for about two hours.

To make this long story a little shorter, I refused to let this product go to waste; I spent $16 on it. I thought about returning it because I was that disappointed in the product, but I was too lazy. I still use it, and it works okay if I remember to reapply about every hour. If not, a B.O. scent will start to creep up on you until you full on smell like sweat.

I should mention that this is a natural deodorant, so this is totally expected coming from a natural deodorant, but I was shocked at the results because Jaclyn raved so much about this product.

I have not tried any other Lavanila products, but I actually want to just to see if I get the same results from the other deodorants. I really did love the smell, but the outcome was just not worth smelling good for such a small amount of time.
